Gas Main Break Causes Fire on USC Campus

EXPOSITION PARK, Calif. (KTLA) — A gas main break caused a small fire to erupt on the USC campus in Exposition Park Friday morning.

The main break happened in the 3400 block of S. McClintock Avenue, just behind the Katherine B. Loker Track Stadium.

A construction crew working in the area reportedly hit a 6-inch gas main.

Firefighters were watering down the area to keep it cool while they waited for the gas main to be shut off.

One person was treated for burn injuries.

Haz mat crews were called to the scene, but authorities said there was no immediate danger.

My Reaction: It seems like USC has been hitting the headlines lately, specifically since the shooting and murder of two international students.  But today is different.

As I pulled up to campus for work, I noticed at least 6 helicopters over campus.  I was worried that there was another shooting of some sort.  When I entered the parking lot, I noticed more cops and fire trucks speeding towards the gate entrance.  But thank God, no shooting, no more deaths.  Apparently, one of the workers got seriously burnt.  But all in all, everything seems to be under control.

Be safe USC!
